Happy Chinese New Year

Sorry for the lack in updates.. we had a long break here in Kuching due to the Chinese New Year Celebration.

Lightning is growing up so well.. he's really quite the naughty devil as well as an affection whore.  Yes, I called him a whore.. hahaha.. he's always seeking out your hand for the affectionate pet, pushing everyone away (ie Maximus, Lupo and Hunter) to get to your hand.  It's just so adorable, although sometimes, you just want to push him away because you want to show the same affection to the other dogs.

How did Lightning survive during those thunderous nights where people were setting off firecrackers and fireworks?  Well, he was definitely scared, running around with his tail between his legs.. but he finally settled down in the arms of Maximus.  It's darling!  They were cuddled together at the corner of the building, arm in arm, just sleeping.

Where did everybody go??

He's slightly small in stature, but he sure makes up for it.  He likes nipping at the other dogs, but the weirdest thing happens when he's play fighting with Hunter.. he goes for the bite and yelps bloody murder at the same time!  You're left wondering.. who's the one really getting hurt?

Still runs like lightning though.. he's got extremely long slender legs that carries him like a mile a minute or something.. haven't exactly timed him with a stop watch.. and I'm not really sure how long a mile is.. 

But he's affectionate.. never ending with the kisses.. you have to be careful or he might just give you a black eye with his over-zealous feat to get to your face.

Doggie Rant

This has nothing to do with Lightning, it's just my rant about people stealing dogs.  Another 2 Golden Retrievers were 'lost' from their homes in Jalan Stutong 3 days ago.  Owner is frantic looking for them as they are her babies.

That's exactly what our pets are to us.. our babies.  We care for them, we feed them, we bath them... we love them unconditionally, like a parent to their child.

So when you STEAL our pets, consider this.  You're stealing our child!  Our baby!  Would you go around stealing real human babies?  (Well, if you're one of those sickos out there...) So what is the difference here?  You're stealing our blood and tears.. our reason for existing.. our soul!  I'm being dramatic here, but YOU GET IT??


STOP STEALING OUR BABIES... IF YOU FIND A LOST PET, DO WHAT YOU CAN TO RETURN IT, BECAUSE CHANCES ARE THAT YOU HAVE FOUND SOMEONE'S BABY.  Look at it this way, if you found a lost child, wouldn't you do anything in your power to find their parents?

Cookie, I hope where ever you are right now, you're safe and loved... I miss you buddy!

Lightning's Big Night Out!

Soooo...Lightning has his first big night out.. usually he's still locked in the cage while the bigger dogs get free roam of the house compound at night.  Poor Lightning would howl his lungs off the whole night when that happened.. one morning I came rushing down, thinking he was being mauled by the other dogs.. turns out he's just trying to escape from the cage and howling.

So last night, Ron and Elvina decided to patch the hole in the gate where Lightning could escape to the main road through.. (imagine my shock to see two rakes stuck to the gate when I was leaving the house this morning!..like seriously.. what the...)

Anyway, I'm not quite sure what Lightning got up to, but the dogs were fairly quiet last night, albeit one long howl from Lupo before I fell asleep.  But this morning, my dad managed to get them all in the cage except for Lightning, who refuses to go in and went into hiding underneath the long gym bench.  No matter how much my dad tried to coax him out, he refuses to come out.. even took me calling a few times before he emerged from his little cave.. he ran with such gusto and excitement to see me first thing in the morning.. I feel so loved.

I however, did think that the dogs had a good time last night.. this is how I found them when I came home from lunch.

They didn't even hear me coming!  Didn't even hear the snap of the camera.. only when I clicked my tongue did Maximus jump awake and came running..

 Poor little Lightning, guess he was too tired he needed the fence to hold his head up!

Rainy Rainy Day

We had one of the wettest days in Kuching so far for 2012 (not like that's hard, since it's only the 6th January!)  But woke up in the morning with floods threatening out neighborhood and traffic jams a mile long.. best weather to sleep in though.  The rain started from 10pm the night before and by 4am, it was pissing down like there's no tomorrow!

I was worried about my babies.. were they warm?  Were they dry?  Are they scared of all the thunder and lightning?  Was their cage flooded?  Since it was raining so heavily, I couldn't step out to see them.  That, and I was too excited to drive out to the flood areas to have a look!  Of course, I had to turn back when it proved impossible to get out to the main road due to traffic.

When the rain let up in the afternoon, I rushed over to see my babies:

Yes, my babies were nice, warm and comfortable.  Look how happy Lightning is, snuggled between his mates!  Bet they were looking out for him and making sure he's warm and kept snugged and safe.

I'm so happy that they're all BFFs.. I'm so blessed..

Lightning Adapting Well with The Big Dogs

Lightning is getting along really well with the rest of the gang...

 Look at them enjoying the morning in each other's company.  Maximus looks so happy.. isn't he just such a cutey?  And look, Lightning and Hunter are best buddies.  
I have noticed that Lightning follows Hunter like a loyal subordinate - or as my sister in law puts it.. "lick his balls"... which I for one.. took it seriously and was totally grossed out til she explained that it just meant that Lightning is close to Hunter.. phew.. got a little worried for awhile.

So how does Hunter, Lupo and Maximus feel about the new addition to the cage?

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.. he's annoying!!!" - Hunter Ling

"New BFF!!!" - Maximus Ling

"Yawn.... I'm sleepy..." - Lupo Ling

So there you have it, one big happy family.

Oh by the way, Lightning is true to his name.. certainly runs like Lightning.. he's got to learn to control his speed when turning though.. haha.. sometimes skidding on a puddle and slamming into the wall!
